Beautiful Desert, Beautiful Family
Before this session, I had been on what I refer to as “long-term maternity leave” from my photography business. I had done some sessions for my family here and there, but had to stop taking on clients due to time constraints. I had been laid off from my 9 to 5 job back in 2016 due to downsizing. During that time, I was able to take on clients for stylized newborn sessions in my in-home studio. But then, I found another 9 to 5 job. It was a good job, but the drive was long! I was in the car at least three hours a day, plus the 8 hour shifts, I was home basically in time to kiss the kids good night and left before they were awake again in the morning.
After discussing it a LOT, my husband and I decided to move to a house that has far less space than the one we were living in. But it cut my drive time, as well as my husband’s down to less than half! But I lost my newborn studio space, so my business was still in a holding pattern.
After a few months in the new house, we found out we were expecting our fourth baby! We figured out that four was the number that made becoming a stay-at-home-mom sense in our situation, so I did not return to my newer 9 to 5 job after our daughter was born.
Once our youngest was three, it felt like it was the right time to return from “maternity leave” and start taking on clients again. And this family was the first family I photographed for the 2021 fall season!
This family is special to my family, too! Jenn (the mom in this family) actually grew up with my husband. When we were discussing which location to shoot at, her request was desert scenery.
After being in the business off and on for the better part of 20 years, this was the first time I had been asked for a desert location!! I am so glad, though, because these turned out beautifully. 😍
